Journey to Building Our Homestead

As with many homeschooling families, the homesteading bug has bit us to😃. This old-fashioned lifestyle drew us in. We love that we can grow our own food, raise our own animals for meat, eggs and milk, and have a slower, simpler life. The quality of our food would be much better! no pesticides, and healthier raised animals. Anyone can start a little garden; herbs and some vegetables can be grown in containers on the balcony of a flat. I only started getting into gardening when I came home full time, I never knew that something like this would be for me, but apparently it is! 😁. When we lived in the city, we had a small space in the front of our home to plant, and in that little space we had harvested cherry tomatoes, spinach, green beans, potatoes, beetroot, green pepper, cabbage, thyme, mint, parsley and rosemary. I had no need to run to the grocery store to buy those things, I could just get it out of our garden! how rewarding!
Being that we are a large family, this way of living made sense to us, as we all know that the cost of living is rising.

So, 3 years ago we sold our 4-bedroom home in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town and started this journey. We have been renting up until now, paid 90% of our debt, and finally we have our raw piece of land. It's very small compared to the typical farm size that we have been so inspired by on YouTube, but this is what could fit our pockets, as we do not want to have huge amounts of debt again, and we are able to have a good amount of vegetable raised beds, some chickens, a goat or two, and maybe some sheep.

Recently the fencing around the plot has been put up, as a family we have pulled out many bushes! planted some succulent trees along the fencing. Today, we planted some fruit trees, herbal plants, and started building our raised beds, where vegetables will be planted in. Soon our home will start being built, it will be an off-grid wooden house (a.k.a, a wendy house😊).

We will have quite a few of these, to grow our vegetables in

I will try my best to keep you updated with all the progress.

We are so grateful to the Father for this.

With Love
